The design was done pro bono to help renovate a village in Hercegovina that has been destroyed more than once. The area included is the very center of the village, where there use to lay a school, a monumnet to people killed in the Second World War and a culture center (renovated already). The upper terace would remin the place for the vilagers to come together, but some new things would be added: a stage, for various events, an open-air classroom, a screen for video projections, the school is transformed into a hostel with a shop. Behind these buildings dense planting creates a woods-like atmosphere. ‘School gardens’ are transformed into a small grass field for ball games and a small children`s playground.
Central part of the lower plateau is a sunny stone-paved square. Benches are built so that they leave a vehicular route, but prevent parking – an apropriate parking area is situated next to the access road. According to the project preferences a new street was required, which would lead to the lower part of the village. A triangular space that was thus created was designed with staircases that meet and create a small intimate square with a cascading fountain. The big descent of the terrain was dealt with terraces. Apart from existing and projected staircases a ramp is being built, that deals with all height differences and allows access for people with disabilities to all areas.
The ambient must fit in with the environment. The materials used are natural: above all stone, wood, ceramics and autochthon plants are planted.
